Challenge
North Central State College (NCSC) has been working with employers in the Richland County area who are challenged with finding qualified entry level employees for manufacturing positions.
Solution
NCSC created the Manufacturing Readiness Training Pilot Program as a part of the LIFT grant to train unemployed individuals to prepare them for entry level work in manufacturing companies. NCSC administered ACT’s Applied Math, Locating Information and Reading for Information to screen potential students. NCSC obtained MSSC’s Certified Production Technician (CPT) curriculum from the Ohio Talent Development Network Resource Center at discounted rates and also purchased the assessments. Some students worked on a self-paced basis while others learned in the traditional classroom.
Results
Students earned certificates in Safety, Quality and Manufacturing Processes. Plans are to offer a fully virtual class in the upcoming months.
